Dem Bones

Two weeks ago we focused on the bones of the upper half of our body, last week we focused on the heart, and yesterday we focused on the bones of the lower half of our body.

We did standing poses that we could not do without strong leg and foot bones and fun balancing poses. We had a relay to utilize the bones in our feet. Kids crab walked and then picked up marbles using their toes. We played a fun game of making up our own poses when a bone name was called out. Kids had to make sure that bone was touching the ground. Fun stuff!

New class begins on March 3, 2010 at Zuzi Dance Theater! See you there!

The Heart

Today is the day I work with my "itty bitties" 3 and 4 year-olds. For this age group the class goes pretty quick -- it has too. We work in and out of poses quick and try to sit as little as possible.

Today was about the heart -- as an organ and how it is connected with feelings. I introduced the main workings of the heart -- we breathe in oxygen, oxygen is absorbed into our blood, and blood is pumped through our body. Essentially -- we can not live without a heart and we also can not live without love. After doing a few breathing exercises and getting our heart rate going (we felt our pulse before and after), I then introduced a book called Heartprints. The book basically tells how doing things for others -- listening to them, reading to them, helping in some kind of way leaves behind heartprints. And when we give a heartprint we help others to feel good but we also feel good too. We then did poses that could have to do with things we love.

It was a good class. I ended by telling them that every Tuesday and Thursday they leave me heartprints by being in class with me.

Peace and Blessings,
Candace
